Conceptualization of Relative Leisure Deprivation

초록

This study is a basic research examining the resolution of leisure inequality for citizens and social class members who are in a blind spot regarding leisure participation and the reduction in leisure gap in terms of leisure welfare, along with the aim of conceptualizing relative leisure deprivation (RLD). This study employed the Delphi method, with three iteration of surveys with a panel of 16 experts. Based on the result, RLD was defined as “a subjective emotional state in which an individual perceives leisure resource as being relatively unequal.” Additionally, three sub-factors were derived. First, resourceful leisure deprivation refers to a leisure resource that an individual perceives as unequal. Second, emotional leisure deprivation occurs when an individual perceives leisure resource as being unequal. Third, cognitive leisure deprivation refers to the level of awareness an individual has regarding leisure resource. The results of this study are expected to serve as baseline data for seeking the government’s active support in ensuring citizens’ basic right to leisure, prohibition of discrimination related to leisure, and one’s right to receive leisure education.
