초록
This study examined changes in classroom evaluations when summative testing was removed. In order to do this, eight junior high schools' plans for a so called 'free semester' were analyzed and focus groups consisting of 2-6 teachers were interviewed. A total of 33 teachers participated in the interviews. Interview questions were about thoughts and practices on evaluations in a 'free semester'. As a result, nine characteristics were found: Efforts to devise various evaluation methods, considerate formative evaluations, more attention to individual students, more frequent evaluations, process oriented evaluations, performance goal based evaluations, the increased burden on the teachers, vague evaluation guidelines, and deeper understanding and increased participation by students. © 2016 International Information Institute.
