The phase formation and proton conduction in a BaO doped LaScO3 with the perovskite structure were studied. La0.6Ba0.4ScO2.8 was analyzed as a single cubic phase and La0.9Ba0.1ScO3-delta, La0.8Ba0.2ScO3-delta and La0.7Ba0.3ScO3-delta were analyzed to consist of two cubic and orthorhombic phases. Below 300degreesC, all compositions were found to be pure proton conductors in the presence of water vapor. The bulk conductivity of La0.6Ba0.4ScO2.8 was higher than that of any other composition.
