Indoor blind equalization in visible light communication for smart buildings

For sensor networks in energy saving smart buildings, visible light communication (VLC) and power line communication techniques are in great demand. Their main obstacles are multipath problems, DC noise and impulsive noise. In this paper, based on maximization of biased zero error probability and decision feedback (DF) approach, blind algorithms that can cancel all these obstacles are proposed. The inherent immunity to the obstacles and error propagation make the DF approach possible. From the simulation results, the DF scheme enhances the MSE performance by 7 dB and improves the data rate by 1.5 times of the current speed in a harsh non-LOS VLC link in smart building sensor networks with DC and impulsive noise. © © 2014 American Scientific Publishers.
