Optimizing and designing the effects of microwave pre-curing on the properties of ternary blended concrete with slag and fly ash using the simplex centroid method

The simplex centroid method is an efficient concrete test optimization design method, whereas microwave precuring is a new type of concrete treatment technology with high efficiency and low energy consumption. The objective of this study is to systematically investigate the impact of microwave pre-curing on the properties of ternary mixed concrete, incorporating slag and fly ash, and employing the simplex centroid method. The methodology of this study is employed to design the mix ratio of the test samples utilizing the simplex centroid method. Subsequently, the samples underwent testing for mechanical properties, workability, resistivity, and other macroscopic properties. Microscopic analysis was conducted using test methods such as XRD and FTIR. Finally, an optimization analysis was performed based on experimental results, including concrete's workability, compressive strength, and resistivity (durability); and verification tests were then conducted. The experimental results showed that adding slag and fly ash significantly reduced the early compressive strength and durability of concrete. However, the compressive strength and durability of concrete were significantly improved by microwave pre-curing, particularly in the early stages. Microscopic analysis showed that microwave pre-curing caused the early reaction of slag, but the reactivity with fly ash did not increase significantly. The optimization analysis results showed that when the proportions of ordinary Portland cement, slag, and fly ash were approximately 63%, 29%, and 8%, respectively, ternary concrete exhibited the best overall engineering performance. The verification test results showed that the optimized design of concrete using the simplex centroid method exhibited very high accuracy.
