Structural Relationship between Safety and Emergency Training for Cabin Crews and Safety Self-Efficacy and Safety Behaviors: Moderating Effect of Vocational Calling

Purpose: The objective of this study is to examine the structural relationship between safety and emergency training for cabin crews, safety self-efficacy, safety behavior, and the moderating effect of vocational calling. Design/methodology/approach: Cabin crew members with more than one year of experience at seven airlines in the Republic of Korea were selected as sample units. A total of 280 survey responses were collected from September 4, 2023 to September 27, 2023. Findings: The study's results reveal that safety and emergency training for cabin crews significantly influence safety self-efficacy, with vocational calling playing a partial moderating role. Furthermore, safety self-efficacy has a substantial impact on safety behavior. Research limitations/implications: Safety and emergency training for cabin crews should be designed to recognize individual accomplishments, foster professional dedication, and establish mechanisms that encourage safe behavior. Originality/value: It is essential that airlines enforce structured safety and emergency training and crew resource management to enhance the safety self-efficacy of flight attendants and direct them towards safety-oriented actions. © The Author(s).
