『奉天通志』에 나타나는 鴨綠江과 遼河의 특징 고찰

초록

There are two rivers in relation to the ancient Manchuria. One is Liao-he and another is Yalu-jiang.We don't know yet about the importance of Liao-he. Liao-he is the large river dividing Liaodong and Liaoxi. According to historical documents, Liao-he is one of the three large rivers in China along with the Yellow River(the Hwang Ho) and the Yangtze River. A number of docks and approximately 10,000 ships that piled around Liao-he until Quing Dynasty appear in historical documents. The ships were operated roughly 1000 Li (400 km) from Liao-he to the Gulf of Pohai(渤海). There were also many cities around long Liao-he. Central cities such as Liaoyang, Shenyang, Kaiyuan, Tieling that ruled the ancient Manchuria were located in the long area of Liao-he. However, The Liao-he was called with different names because it is a long area. Some areas were called Yalu-jiang and others were called Huntong-river. The name of place like Yalu-jiang appears many times in the ancient historical documnets. Yalu-jiang appearing in ancient historical documents is defined current Yalu-jiang. But it is a clear fallacy. Ancient Yalu-jiang is a tributary to the Liao-he where many ships are operated. A number of ships cannot be operated in current Yalu-jiang like Liao-he. In fact, Yalu-jiang is the river for the ship that transport timbers in Baekdusan because the width of a river is narrow and has sandy plains. Therefore, A big city cannot be made around current Yalu-jiang. The historical geography of Manchuria is one of the significant fields to those researching the history of Manchuria in the near future. Without understanding accurate historical documents, the location of Manchria would be misunderstood as it was called differently in each period and had same place names dotted around the country. Liao-he and Yalu-jiang is the one of them. When we study the ancient historical documents, we need to recognize that Liao-he, approximately 3800 Li long, was called with various names such as Liaoshui(遼水),Yalu-jiang, Huntong-river since then.
