Users of today have a lot of services to choose on their mobile devices. The importance of customized services with smart interactions has been even more stressed since mobile devices become more common, smaller in size, but have more functionality. User cannot possibly specify every detail of his/her requests. To provide a service of a good quality, therefore, descriptions for users' intentions and their contexts are needed. These descriptions should be also interoperable, because these descriptions will be used by many different services. We introduce MPEG User Description (MPEG-UD),1,2 a rich data formats to describe users' intention and contexts including emotion, physical states, etc. We also introduce a scenario of communication using visual objects as an effective use case of MPEG-UD. Finally, we propose a visual communication system with schemabased visual objects. This system implements the formerly mentioned communication scenario, and it is designed such that the traffic overload is reduced. © © 2014 American Scientific Publishers.
