Study on Artifacts in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (I) Review of Technique-Related Artifacts

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is widely used in clinical practice because of its excellent soft-tissue contrast and noninvasive nature. However, MRI is susceptible to various artifacts arising from signal acquisition and image reconstruction, which may degrade image quality and reduce diagnostic accuracy. This review focuses on common technique-related artifacts encountered in clinical MRI, including aliasing, truncation (Gibbs ringing), cross-talk and related RF profile artifacts, zipper, and eddy current artifacts. Each artifact is discussed in terms of its physical mechanism, typical imaging appearance, sequence dependence, clinical pitfall, and practical correction strategy. A systematic understanding of these artifacts may contribute to improved image quality, fewer repeat examinations, and enhanced diagnostic reliability.
