한국어에 서술절이 존재하는가?
Are there clausal predicates in Korean?
초록
Whether Korean has a clausal predicate or not has been a much debated issue in Korean syntax. The main purpose of this paper is to show that clausal predicates exist in Korean. This claim is based on discussion of three issues: 1) whether recent previous studies arguing against the existence of clausal predicates are persuasive enough, 2) whether the traditional understanding of the notion of grammatical function/relation is valid, and 3) what idioms and multi-word expressions in Korean tell us about the (non-)existence of clausal predicates. It will be argued that consideration of all these issues leads to the conclusion that clausal predicates are a useful and reasonable tool for analyzing Korean sentence structures.
