Strategic joining behaviors and optimal control for discrete-time passenger-taxi matching queues

This study explores strategic joining behaviors and optimal control for discrete-time passenger-taxi matching queues. We analyze strategic joining behaviors by passengers in both observable and unobservable cases. In both cases, we provide the equilibrium joining strategies for individual passengers and optimal joining strategies for socially concerned passengers. We also investigate the optimal taxi buffer size to maximize the social welfare from a governmental perspective. For each social welfare maximization problem, we present a simulated annealing algorithm which helps us find the optimal control scheme for our model. Finally, we conduct various numerical experiments to suggest an insightful operational control methodology. © 2019 KIIE.
