The Effect of Constraint-Induced Exercise Therapy for Upper Extremity Muscle Function in Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy

초록

To determine how effective constraint-induced movement therapy is(CIMT) in terms of improving upper extremity function and EMG for school age children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. The five school age children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy were as follows (2 males ages 7, 9 years old and 3 females ages-6, 7, & 8 years old) Subjects were treated with 4 weeks of constraint-induced movement therapy that were six hours/day, and 2 sessions(30mins) in special PT, OT, plus a home program. Jabsen Hand Function Test(JHFT), Quality of Upper Extremity Skills Test(QUEST), Wee FIM, GMFM, Dynamic EMG(deltoid, triceps, wrist extensor) were taken before and after 4 weeks of intervention. There was signifcantly improvement after 4 weeks in the following tests: The Jebsen Tayler hand function test(writing, stimulate page turning, lifting small-common objects, simulated feeding, lifting large-light objects, lifting large-heavy objects), GMFM score, QUEST(selective movement, grasp), Dynamic EMG(elbow extension in grasp) Constraint-induced movement therapy appears to be an effective exercise therapeutic method for school age children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
