This study explores how administrative class disparities between an individual's birthplace and workplace influence corporate social responsibility (CSR) investment decisions. It examines the relationship between these disparities and CSR strategies, revealing the potential impact of urban administrative levels on CSR decision-making in firms led by Chinese immigrant entrepreneurs. Using multiple regression analysis, the research investigates the CSR decisions of 1280 chairpersons from 1059 listed companies, focusing on the influence of the administrative levels of their birthplaces and company locations. The findings indicate that both the chairperson's birthplace and the higher administrative level of the company's location positively affect CSR activities. This research highlights the importance of urban administrative levels in shaping corporate social responsibility and suggests that policymakers and businesses should consider urban-rural disparities. © 2025 The Author(s)
