Development and Application of an Optical Strain Measurement System for the Forming Limit Diagram

An optical automatic strain measurement system capable of supporting both grid and speckle patterns was developed. A dedicated module was additionally installed to easily derive the forming limit diagram of sheet metals according to various position-dependent and time-dependent methods published to date, including the international standard ISO 12004-2. The entire process of performing forming limit analysis was described with sample tests using this system, and the results obtained differently according to the selection of the analysis method or the input values of the numerical parameters were compared and analyzed. This study was intended to prepare, in advance, for the establishment of a new international standard by proposing several methods to obtain more robust results by modifying existing regulations or theories. © 2022 The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers
