Antibacterial effect of the flower petal extract from Camellia sinensis on oral infection-inducing Candida albicans

Oral candidiasis is an infectious disease caused by Candida fungus which are major opportunistic pathogens, and is the most common infection that occurs on oral mucosa. In this study, we aim to Camellia sinensis to analyze its inhibition on acid production and confirmed its antibacterial effect. We investigated antifungal activity against Candida albicans from the diameter of the clear zone (mm) and measured the changes in pH to identify the extent to which acid production was inhibited. In this study, antibacterial activity of the flower extract from Camellia sinensis against C.albicans was clearly shown at 250mg/disc concentration with inhibition area of 24mm. When we measured the changes of pH to confirm the inhibition of acid production. Based on these results, we elucidated that the flower extract from Camellia sinensis has an antibacterial activity against C. albicans infection. © Research India Publications.
