The stability of an electron beam is important to improve the radiation power, gain, and efficiency, and it becomes low grade due to the high wiggler magnetic field and self-generated fields in a high power free-electron laser. To enhance the stability of the electron beam, a two-frequency wiggler is used. We investigate the effects of self-generated fields for enhancing the stability of the electron beam for a two-frequency wiggler with an axial-guide magnetic field. To analyze the phase space of the electron motion in a field configuration consisting of a two-frequency wiggler magnetic field, a uniform axial-guide fields, and a self-generated fields, we apply the guiding-center variables, and we optimize the two-frequency wiggler parameters by using the numerical simulations from an extended Hamiltonian.
