A Critical Inquiry on Novel Education Focused on the Theme

On the one hand, novel theme has been held in great esteem for the last step of understanding novel and primary contents of novel education,but one the other, it has been criticized that it hinders the reader`s active reading. This essay aims to clean up the cause of this phenomenon and seek for a practical alternative. The outcome shows that the theme as an oldest content of novel education had been designed and developed by experience-centered curriculum, new criticism, discipline centered curriculum and Auteurism,but now has started to be confined under the influence of the reception theory. The reasons why this problem occurred are that previous novel theme educations focused not on teaching the educational value and methods of inferring themes, but on explaining the relation with subjectivity of a real author, a text and contexts of creation. Under further discussion, this essay demonstrates that the novel theme need an ethical reading and narrative communication with an implied author and suggests the rhetorical analysis for inferring themes and the negotiation of meaning for ensuring the validity of that.
