Shear Anchor Behavior and Design of Embedded Rack Rail Track Panel for Mountain Train

A new type mountain train system that can run on steep gradients and sharp curves was developed and precast concrete embedded rack rail track is adopted. For this track, the track has to have enough longitudinal stiffìiess and resistance because all traction force from the train is transmitted to the panel through a rack rail and large longitudinal load from steep gradient is generated. For these reasons, the precast concrete panel is fixed with shear anchors to the H S B layer; the anchors must be properly designed. In this study, focus was put on the design of shear anchors in embedded rack rail track. For this, first, the design load for shear anchors was evaluated. Then, the shear anchor was designed by theoretical approach. The performance of the shear anchor was evaluated by finite element analysis. From the results, it was found that four shear anchors are needed to satisfy the ultimate and service limit states for the embedded rack rail track for a mountain train. © 2021 The Korean Society for Railway.
