Treatment of Diesel-Contaminated Soil and Flushed-Solution Using Soil Flushing Process and Coagulation

초록

This study was conducted to evaluate in situ soil flushing and coagulation for diesel-contaminated soil remediation. Surfactant was used as a flushing solution. The soil used in this study was contaminated artificially with 10,000mg TPH/kg of dry soil. The flushing efficiency of diesel-contaminated soil was the most efficient with 1% surfactant solution in batch test, and 76% and 84% efficiencies were observed with POE12-only and POE12+SDS mixed-surfactant solutions, respectively. When 13 pore volumes of POE12-only solution were added to the soil, the flushing efficiency of diesel-contaminated soil was the highest at 63%. Approximately 10% of flushing efficiency was increased in column test using POE12+SDS mixed-surfactant solution, compared with POE12-only. A601P polymer showed the best coagulation characteristic for the flushed-out solution. From the results, POE12+SDS mixed-sufractant and A601P polymer could be considered as in situ flushing solution of diesel-contaminated soil and coagulant of the flushed-out solution. After treating SDS flushed-solution with A601P polymer, compounds of C8-C15 were removed to about 70% and compounds of C16-C25 were not detected. Therefore, train system of soil vapor extraction and in situ soil flushing would be very effective in treating petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.
