Time-resolved luminescence and its component lifetimes have been measured from natural quartz in order to interpret the associated dynamics of luminescence emission. The influence of beta irradiation, and measurement temperature on the lifetimes have been investigated and parameters of the kinetics involved calculated. The results are explained by considering the extent of non-radiative processes and the role of charge transfer between several types of luminescence centres. (C) 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
