The Effects of Achievement Goal Orientation of Ssirum Athlete on Competition State Anxiety before Game and Performance

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of achievement goal orientation of ssirum athlete on competition state anxiety before game and performance. To this end, samples of middle school, high school, and university athletes who registered in the Korea Ssirum Association in 2015, participated in 2015 President’s Cup Ssirum Competition(Jul 23~29) were collected. The sample size used in convenience sampling was 335. The final sample size except insincere materials was 319 out of 330. Experts meeting composed of the experts in physical science was held, from the result of which, pre-test and exploratory factor analysis were used to verify validity of the questionnaire. Trustworthiness was a=.603~.872. Reliability analysis, correlation analysis, confirmatory analysis, structural equation modeling using the program SPSS Statistics 23.0 and AMOS 19.0 were conducted. Through these research methods and procedures, the following conclusions were drawn. First, achievement goal orientation of ssirum athlete had an influence on competition state anxiety. Task preference had a negative effect on physical state anxiety and state confidence, cognitive state anxiety. Moreover, self-tendency had a positive effect on physical state anxiety and state confidence, cognitive state anxiety. Second, achievement goal orientation of ssirum athlete had an influence on performance. Task preference had a negative effect on performance and self-tendency had a positive effect on performance. Third, competition state anxiety had an influence on performance. State confidence and cognitive state anxiety had a positive effect on performance.
