A Study on Gangwon Regional Literature in Postcolonial Theory

초록

This study approaches Gangwon regional literature within the framework of postcolonial theory. Gangwon area’s poems describe the regional lives resorting mostly to short lyricism. With respect to the image and the language, they make use of traditional figuration. These are characteristic of the identity of Gangwon regional literature. Meanwhile, one of the challenges ahead for the regional literature should be the revitalization of the regional literature through gaining national literature. Coal mine poems’ are not reserved exclusively for those who experienced coal mining. Nevertheless, genuine agents of coal mine poems should be coal mine workers and residents. This is the very reason why such poems should be ascribed to ‘regional literature.’ It is deemed appropriate for such poems to focus on creating poetic images rather than depicting reality in an abstract way. Also, locality, or ‘regional life’, can be the strategic objective to which the postcolonial-poetry should pay attention in modern times. The problem of postcolonial-poetry and portraying such regional life is not limited to regional literature. this is one of the alternative, strategic categories that help overcome today’s Korean literary landscape.
