The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) of wind-induced pressure on buildings is briefly introduced in time domain and then it is extended to frequency domain. Theoretical considerations and physical interpretation of the POD results are illustrated through analysis of wind-induced roof pressure measured during a wind-tunnel study of wind loading for a low-rise building. The POD results from time and frequency domain are presented and compared. The point and area-integrated variance, power spectrum and cross-spectrum of the pressure are written as modal (series) expansions involving the POD results. It is concluded that the POD in frequency domain provides efficient modal representation of spectral properties of wind-induced pressure on roofs and other components of buildings and structures.
