Settling velocity of irregularly shaped particles in Newtonian fluids

This work explores the expression of irregularly shaped particles in Newtonian fluids. Ta<inf>2</inf>O<inf>5</inf> and Nb<inf>2</inf>O<inf>5</inf> particles, with sizes ranging from 42 to 141 μm, were settled in Newtonian fluids placed in cylindrical tubes of different inner diameters (20-50 mm). The formula proposes an explicit relationship between the cylindrical tube diameter and settling velocity of irregularly shaped particles in Newtonian fluids. © 2013 Taylor & Francis.
