Study on the Effect of Different Blending Proportions of Kraft Lignin/Lignin Sulfonate on the Preparation of Carbon Fibers

Effects of adding different amounts of lignin sulfonate(LS) on the morphology, yield and structure of cross-linked kraft lignin(CKL) pre⁃cursor fibers and carbon fibers were investigated. The results showed that CKL with the mass fraction of 28% had good fiber-forming properties during electrospinning, and the prepared precursor fibers had uniform morphology; while the addition of LS reduced the solution viscosity and produced insol⁃ uble particles, resulting in nodules or particles on the fiber surface. During the thermal oxidation process, the higher the LS content, the greater the weight loss of the precursor fiber; at the same time, in the carbonization process, the carbonization temperature needed to be lowered to control the weight loss and avoid fiber breakage. The addition of LS affected the formation of the carbon layer and the degree of graphitization to a certain extent. Adding 10% LS could obtain carbon fibers with a high degree of graphitization and a dendritic fiber morphology, and was rich in 2.71% S element © 2025, China Technical Association of Paper Industry.
