초록
This study aims to provide the pragmatic analysis of the English anaphor “-self” and the Korean anaphor “caki”, the distribution of which cannot be captured even under the Minimalist notion of Binding. Based on the notion of logophoricity (Reinhart and Reuland 1993, among others) and deictic usage (Iida 1996, Smith 2004, among others), we argue that “-self” and “caki” can be used as logophoric expressions, the interpretation of which is sometimes influenced by deictic elements of the utterance, i.e., their logophoric interpretation is influenced by deictic elements in the context as the deictic center changes. We also argue that the seemingly referentially independent noun “caki” belongs to deictic expression referring an implicit argument in the context.
