3-D stereoscopic tour-into-picture by conversion of a 2-D image intostereoscopic video

This paper presents a 3-D stereoscopic TIP (Tour Into Picture) for Koreanclassical paintings being composed of persons, boat, and landscape. Unlikeconventional TIP methods providing 2-D image or video, our proposed TIP canprovide users with 3-D stereoscopic contents. Navigating a picture withstereoscopic viewing can deliver more realistic and immersive perception. Themethod firstly makes input data being composed of foreground mask, backgroundimage, and depth map. The second step is to navigate the picture and to obtainrendered images by orthographic or perspective projection. Then, two schemessuch as depth template and Laws depth are utilized in order to reduce acardboard effect and thus to enhance 3-D perceived depth of the foregroundobjects. In experiments, the proposed method was tested on "Danopungjun" and "Muyigido" that are famous paintings made inChosun Dynasty. The stereoscopic animation was proved to deliver new 3-Dperception compared with 2-D video. ICIC International © 2009.
