Recently, event of regional torrential rain and heavy snowfall has increased and their intensities have become stronger owing to the global climate change, which increasingly raises concerning over the drainage system of public facilities. In particular, an airport runway requires immediate measures for a drainage system owing to safety aspects and problems such as delayed arrivals. This paper provides a brief summary of the development of cement-treated drainage base course to ensure drainage performance of the airport pavement. The purpose of this study is to assure permeability, mechanical and durability properties of the pervious base course. As a mix variable, cement was replaced by ground-granulated blast furnace slag up to 50% to enhance environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness purpose. In addition, a field simulation test was conducted to evaluate its field applicability. From the results, the compressive strength was satisfied the standard compressive strength of 5 MPa on the 7 day-aged for all variables. Excellent drainage performance was obtained by securing a sufficient porosity. Through the field simulation test, a desirable paving height of each layer is suggested to be less than 150 mm concerning the used compaction equipment, a vibrating roller screed. © W. S.
