초록

Multiculturalism claims that multiple cultures have their own values and we must respect them. It can be thought that the universal value as critical thinking cannot function as the aim of education in that it overrides multiple cultures and doesn't admit their uniqueness. This paper aims to describe the values and roles of educating multiculturalism and critical thinking. After explaining why critical thinking must be the aim of education, I examine multiculturalism and feminism, which oppose the universal role of rationality of critical thinking. And then I claim that critical thinking can be universally judging criterion still in multiculturalism by showing that pluralism is different from relativism and absolutism. Lastly, I apply critical thinking to the discussion on multiculturalism: the anti-cruelty principle is an application case.
