Cell Membrane Coating Nanoparticle-based Drug Delivery Systems for Cancer Targeted Therapy: Latest Research Trends and Future Prospects

초록

Cell membrane-coated nanoparticles (CMNPs) are emerging as a promising platform for achieving precise drug delivery and enhanced biocompatibility in cancer therapy. This review goes beyond simply outlining the concepts and design elements of CMNPs. It also structures CMNPs technology by focusing on key validation items required for reproducible manufacturing, characterization, and safety assessment from a clinical translation perspective. Design variables based on core materials and cell membrane sources are outlined, and representative manufacturing technologies and optimization strategies are compared and examined from a process perspective. Furthermore, it provides an integrated overview of cancer-specific targeting strategies and diverse applications, presenting practical constraints including quality, reproducibility, and immunological/infectious risks. Finally, it outlines the regulatory and ethical considerations required by bio-derived envelopes, highlighting key issues and future research directions for transitioning CMNPs research results to clinical development.
