This study aimed to confirm the reliability and validity of the translated version of the Ecological Concept Test Tool of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and to identify ecological misconceptions that appear to students. The translated test papers consisted of two linked questionnaires, type A and type B, which consisted of the same question, and were put into 837 middle and high school students, and the types and causes of the difference in scores by school level were analyzed. The reliability of the translated version of the test tool used in this study showed a Cronbach alpha value of 0.89 or higher in both types of questions, and an MNSQ value of 2 or less in the item validity analysis, confirming that these are very suitable items. From the analysis results of the students' ecological misconceptions, it was confirmed that students were more likely to choose a specific incorrect answer in the ecological question related to the food web than in other questions, and that they had a relatively large number of misconceptions about this. As a result of checking the difference in scores of students by school level, scores were significantly higher in the high school student group than in the middle school student group, which was estimated to be related to the absence of ecological education in the life science curriculum of the middle school.
