A Study on Consulting of Teaching Behavior Patterns of Gaze Fixation by using Eye Tracker: The Case Study

In recently, teacher’s teaching behavior is regarded the most important factor for determine on quality of learning in a class. Therefore, it should need to analysis of teaching behavior related to effect of learning on class. The existing method of analysis of teaching behavior is various such as direct observation, video recording, interview, and so on. However, these researches have a very important restriction; intervention of subjectivity in analysis. It should be introduced new analysis method excluded shortcomings to consult teaching behavior by objective view. At this reason, purpose of this study is exploration of consulting possibility by using Eye-tracker. To make sure, we recruited a teacher named A, and we did detect and analyse on gaze patterns of teacher wearing a mobile eye-tracker on class. After, we have performed analysis to reveal whether or not existence of student valuable. As a result of this study, gaze fixation of teacher A was relatively lower level, and gaze fixations within student zone are concentrated some AOIs. We found out a factor that pattern of gaze fixation is not related to student valuable. Next we provide to teacher A counsel about problems of gaze fixation. As a result of post-consulting, gaze fixation of instruction zone decrease, but gaze fixation of student zone increase. In addition, pattern of gaze fixation is similarly changed among AOIs within student zone. Consequently, this study shows a possibility of consulting of teaching by using eye-tracker, and reveals pattern of gaze fixation is a important factor to analysis teacher’s teaching behavior.
